This week in RE, Emerald Class found out all about the Jewish holy book - the Torah. We discovered that it contains the five books of the Law, written by Moses and these are the same as the first five books of the Old Testament of the Bible! Jewish people believe that the Torah contains God’s words and His golden rules for living, so it is extremely special. We were fascinated to find out that the Torah is kept in a special cupboard (called an ark) in the synagogue, and is so special that people do not touch the pages - they use a pointy stick (called a yad) when they read the words instead! We had a lot of fun making our own beautiful Torah scrolls. We chose pictures of some of the stories in the Torah and wrote our own golden rules on our scrolls before tying them up with special golden ribbons. Some of us even made our own yad pointing sticks!
