Today was our Harvest Festival in school and it is also the first day of the Jewish Harvest Festival - Sukkot. Topaz Class learned that this special time lasts for a week! Jewish people build shelters outside and cover them with a roof of leaves, making sure to leaves holes so they can look up and remember God’s light. Jewish families say prayers, eat together, sing and dance in their shelters - and sometime seve sleep in them! Sukkot is when Jewish people remember their ancestors in the desert, on their way to the land God had promised to them after Moses had helped to rescue them from slavery in Egypt. We built a big sukkah (shelter) and enjoyed having a drink and biscuit in it! We also wrote Harvest prayers, thanking God for the things He gives us, and hung them on our new Prayer Tree.
